Business - Metal leaf materials | Activities - Material

Manufacturing metal leaf is a field of industry based on old customs. However, in order to manufacture products that respond to various wishes, at Hakuichi, we process with consistency. We have available facilities for "alloys" which melt gold nuggets at 1,300 degrees, for "gold sheets" in which stretched alloy rods are made into a paper, for "gold beating" sheets into 1/10,000 mm thickness, and facilities for processing all metals, including gold, silver, and platinum. It is possible to make all sorts of desired metal leafs, matching the metal type, thickness, softness, and color.

Also, Hakuichi is striving for new development in gold leafing. With special processing of metals like copper and silver that change color easily, we have established technology for specific formulas that address color changing. Based on the technology, we have created aging and gradation processes and expanded our product line.

In order to pass on this tradition, we are making efforts to raise successors. We gather young workers to learn from traditional artisans, pass on techniques in an oral tradition, and create an environment that ties together technique development with new ideas.

A way of selling that can respond to more complicated wishes has also been established. Customers can freely engage with the production process from the first sheet. We make available all kinds of metal leaf for students, smaller workshops, and for foreign workshops. Hakuichi supports the growth of gold leaf art.
